The Spine of the Land
October 2026
3:10 to Yuma meets the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a meek small-town sheriff relocates a family of vicious cannibals to continue the westward expansion of the railroad. The Spine of the Land is a graphic novel about the grueling construction of the mid-Atlantic railroad in 1887 Louisiana. The railroad has been delayed due to a group of feral cannibals attacking the workforce. The charismatic Governor, Murphy J. Foster, will use any means necessary to continue his dominion. Capturing one of the feral folk, the Governor hires a meek sheriff to escort the brute back to his people and pay them to leave their homeland. What follows is a tale of brutality, crime, and human tenacity.
ABOUT THE CREATORS
A. Shay Hahn is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans plays, poetry, film, TV, theatre, murals, portraits, posters, and illustration—but comics have always been his greatest passion. Collaborating with Jason Krawczyk on Spine of the Land has been one of his most rewarding projects, a book where both creators knew they were working at the top of their game. He lives in Toronto with his wife Jennifer, their daughter Lauren, and their dog Rudy Super Boy Brown.
Finding high-school physics exceedingly difficult, Jason Krawczyk decided to pursue his passion for filmmaking. After shooting numerous music videos, commercials, and shorts, Jason directed his first feature-length project, “The Briefcase.” In 2015 Jason wrote and directed the Henry Rollins horror-comedy “He Never Died,” which premiered at South By Southwest and is currently streaming on Netflix. The sequel, She Never Died, was released in 2020 on Amazon Prime, and his newest project “Sunset Superman,” starring Michael Jai White, premiered in 2024’s Fantastic Fest and is streaming as a Tubi original. Along with directing, Jason Krawczyk has written, punched up, and ghostwritten several screenplays, novels, and novellas, with his first publication, “An Earth That Knows Magic,” released in 2022 by Black Hare Press. His novella “It Looks Like Dad” went to a 2nd printing in 2023, the novels “Reality Squall” from Nosetouch Press and “Roots Run Deep,” from Ghoulish Books, released in 2024, and the upcoming novel “Nightmare Country” and the comic book “Spine of the Land“ in 2025. His passion for writing led him to co-own “Little Ghosts Books” with his husband, Chris Krawczyk, an inclusive cafe, bookstore, and publisher that has published four books in 2023 and three more in 2024. Jason’s primary goals are honing his writing, directing, and storytelling craft while collaborating with the talented people he has met along the way.
