“Brian Keene writes like a force of nature.” –F. Paul Wilson

Twenty years ago, multiple Bram Stoker Award winner and World Horror Grandmaster Brian Keene’s The Rising was credited with “revitalizing the horror fiction genre” and “giving zombies an upgrade”. In the decades since then, the series has spawned three sequels and earned generations of eager fans from all walks of life- united in the hope that the author would return once again to the franchise.

This is that return.

The Rising: More Selected Scenes From the End of the World features a splattering of new stories set within the world of Brian Keene’s The Rising franchise, complimented with original illustrations by Anthrax’s Charlie Benante. Featuring tales set both before and after the events of the previous books, it will appeal to long-time fans and new readers alike.

He has also written for such media properties such as Doctor Who, Thor, Aliens, Harley Quinn, The X-Files, Doom Patrol, Justice League, Hellboy, Superman, and Masters of the Universe. He was the showrunner for Realm Media and Blackbox TV’s Silverwood: The Door.

CHARLIE BENANTE is an icon in the music world, best known as the drummer for Heavy Metal bands Anthrax and Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D.). A pioneer of double-bass drumming, he is credited with creating and popularizing the blast beat in thrash metal and praised for his lightning-fast double kick technique.

Also an accomplished guitarist, he contributed lead guitar to S.O.D.’s Speak English or Die album as well as composing the majority of the music throughout Anthrax’s discography alongside rhythm guitar player and band leader Scott Ian.

In addition to his musician duties, Benante is also a graphic artist and has created many of Anthrax’s album covers and T-shirt designs.

When he’s not making music or art, Charlie is probably drinking coffee. His love of the bean has led him to create three blends with Chicago’s Dark Matter Coffee.

Outside of Anthrax, Charlie is an obsessive collector–paraphernalia and rarities from The Simpsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Star Wars, as well as a scaled-down replica of the shark from Jaws.
