About the creators:

Tina Horn is a writer, educatrix, and media-maker. Her book of fetish cultural criticism based on her long-running indie podcast Why Are People Into That?! will be out in 2024 from Hachette. Tina is the creator/writer of the sci-fi sex-rebel comic book series Safe Sex (Image) and the host/cowriter of the phone sex podcast Operator (Wondery). Her reporting on sexual subcultures has appeared in Rolling Stone, Playboy, Hazlitt, Glamour, Jezebel and elsewhere; she is the author of two nonfiction books and has contributed to numerous anthologies including the queer horror collection Theater of Terror and We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival which she also co-edited. Tina has lectured on adult entertainment politics and queer BDSM identities at universities and community centers all over North America, and works as an on-set consultant for theater, film, and television including the dominatrix scenes of Pose. She is a LAMBDA Literary Fellow, winner of two Feminist Porn Awards, an AVN-nominated director, and holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence. Originally from Northern California, Tina spent a decade in NYC before re-settling in Los Angeles.

Lisa Sterle is the illustrator-creator of the iconic, bestselling Modern Witch Tarot deck, which has been featured in the New York Times, Vogue Italia and Cosmopolitan. She is also the co-creator and artist of the  comics Witchblood, Squad, Long Lost, and Submerged. She has worked with HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, DC, IDW, Image, BOOM! Studios, and many others.

Gab Contreras is a comic book colorist, illustrator, and graphic designer from Lima, Peru. Her last works as a colorist include WITCHBLOOD (Vault Comics), DIRTBAG RAPTURE (ONI Press), TRVE KVLT (IDW), THE DEADLIEST BOUQUET (Image Comics), and MEZO: BATTLE AT COBÁN ROCK (AWBW). She has also worked on anthologies such as HELP: THE HERO INITIATIVE ANTHOLOGY, 2000 AD SCI-FI SPECIAL 2018, DEAD BEATS, ALL WE EVER WANTED, MAYBE SOMEDAY, EMBODIED, EVERYTHING IS GOING WRONG and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS – 40×40: Bad Reputation/I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.

DaNi was born in Athens, Greece in 1992 and studied sculpture in Athens School of Fine Arts. She began to produce a self-published series called Tales from the Strips that won the Reader’s Choice Award at the Greek Comics Awards in 2015, before working on some 2000 AD strips including Fiends of the Eastern Front and Judge Anderson and on Rebellion’s Scream! & Misty and Tammy & Jinty specials. Soon she was on the radar of the US industry, picking up work from IDW on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. More recently she has worked on the DC VERTIGO titles Sandman-The Dreaming, and is the co-creator of The Low, Low Woods for DC HILL HOUSE COMICS and Image comics series Coffin Bound.

Through his keen fascination with horror fiction, dating back to before his career started, he soon established his own distinctive style. Playing on striking contrasts between bright colours and darker tones, his work blends curves and shadows to create deeply atmospheric artworks, for the most part using watercolours, as well as Indian ink and charcoal.
As a comic artist he has worked with DC Comics (Pray for death, by Nicholas Doan), Image Comics (Fade to Black by Jeff Mariotte), BOOM! Studios (Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Bestiary, Vv.Aa.) , Titan Comics (Dark Souls Vv.Aa.), Seraphim INC (Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Anthology Vol. 1-2, Vv.Aa.), SST Publications (I tell you, it’s love, also in Italian for BD Comics under the title Fidati è amore, based on a story by Joe R. He was behind the artwork for all three volumes of Stephen King’s Tommyknockers (PS Publishing). Daniele’s own art book was published by PS Publishing, with an interface by Clive Barker.
He has illustrated more than 300 novel covers released by labels all around the world. Amongst these, certain collaborations stand out, including those with Clive Barker, J. R. Lansdale, Paul Tremblay, Gwendolyn Kiste, Tim Lebbon, Josh Malerman, Stephen Graham Jones and publishers such as PS Publishing, Thunderstorm Books, Dark Region Press, SST Publishing, Cemetery Dance, Buchheim Verlag, Raw Dog Screaming Press, Season of Mist, Fanucci, Solferino, Corbaccio e Sperling and Kupfer.
His work was also used for the scenography of the film adaptation of “Cell” by Stephen King, directed by Tod Williams and starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. He also provided the illustrations for the opening and closing credits for Yoshiki Takahashi’s film, Rageaholic (Kokuei Company).
A musician with a keen interest in music in general, he has also worked on a number of album covers and sleeve designs for bands such as Shining (IX, Season of Mist), :wumpscut: (Madman- Szpital Box, Beton Kopf Media), So Hideous (Laurestine, Prosthetic Records) e Hapax (Exile, Swiss Dark NIghts).
Daniele lives on a Mediterranean island, in his house-studio with his wife, his cats, various exotic insects and a vast collection of horror movies and books.

Tom Napolitano’s balloons and onomatopoeias have appeared in many comics since 2015 for publisher such as DC, Comixology Originals, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Humanoids, Valiant, and Image on titles like Batman: Last Knight on Earth, Wonder Woman Evolution, We Have Demons, Kaya, The Closet and so many more. He’s also appeared as a colorist for Tales of the Nightwatchman and back-up stories in Image’s Savage Dragon. Additionally, his illustrations and artwork have graced the pages of Ahoy Comics, Gravely Unusual Magazine and Dead Sky Publishing.

While primarily known for his horror works (Tamer AnimalsRotten Little Things) he has works spanning various genres. His work has been featured in Scream Magazine and his stories have appeared in books alongside authors such as Stephen King and Neil Gaiman. Justin also has a love for comedy, having co-written the hilarious Jerry’s Book Sucks: The Book, and works as a stand up comedian as well as hosts a comedy podcast called Dead Mom Club.

Rob Gaughran: Rob was born and raised in Brooklyn NY and then moved when he was still a teen to the rural mountains of western Massachusetts where he lives as a family man and draws while not working his day-to-day as a firefighter.

As a child that grew up in the late ’80s, Rob had a healthy dose of bad action movies, slasher horror flicks, Saturday morning cartoons, and the comics craze of the ’90s. He watched Anime back when it was still a dirty little secret amongst American nerds.

These days he enjoys diving into his favorite subject of horror, reading dude-bro-lit, and watching old gritty violent Action flicks or low-brow comedy. Most of all, He enjoys time with his family doing family stuff.

Death’s Head Press is putting together an anthology of cold/winter horror short stories.

Winter is a setting that lends itself to various horror tales, from survival tales to hauntings to slashers with buckets of blood in the snow. Humans long ago mastered survival in the cold, but what happens when one of the necessities (heat, shelter, food) is taken away? What if that lovely cabin in the woods comes with a helping of the supernatural or otherworldly? The stories can and should cover the wide spectrum of coldness. We aim to explore the what if of the cold.

The specifics:

  • Original stories not previously published.
  • Word count per story: 2,500 – 10,000 words
  • Deadline for submissions: March 31, 2024
  • Pay is $0.04 per word

Three-time winner of the British Fantasy Award as Best Artist (2012, 2017 & 2021) and finalist at the World Fantasy Award 2021, his work includes covers, internal illustrations and comic adaptations for such highly esteemed authors as Stephen King, Clive Barker, Ramsey Campbell, Joe R. Lansdale and Joyce Carol Oates.
His main influences and inspiration come from the world of weird and horror literature from H.P. Lovecraft and William H. Hodgson, Ridley Scott’s films, Japanese horror and the works of Clive Barker.
Through his keen fascination with horror fiction, dating back to before his career started, he soon established his own distinctive style. Playing on striking contrasts between bright colours and darker tones, his work blends curves and shadows to create deeply atmospheric artworks, for the most part using watercolours, as well as Indian ink and charcoal.
As a comic artist he has worked with DC Comics (Pray for death, by Nicholas Doan), Image Comics (Fade to Black by Jeff Mariotte), BOOM! Studios (Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Bestiary, Vv.Aa.) , Titan Comics (Dark Souls Vv.Aa.), Seraphim INC (Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Anthology Vol. 1-2, Vv.Aa.), SST Publications (I tell you, it’s love, also in Italian for BD Comics under the title Fidati è amore, based on a story by Joe R. Lansdale), Mondadori (Murder Ballads, by Micol Beltramini), Bonelli (Gentleman’s Hotel based on a story by Joe R. Lansdale). He was behind the artwork for all three volumes of Stephen King’s Tommyknockers (PS Publishing). Daniele’s own art book was published by PS Publishing, with an interface by Clive Barker.
He has illustrated more than 300 novel covers released by labels all around the world. Amongst these, certain collaborations stand out, including those with Clive Barker, J. R. Lansdale, Paul Tremblay, Gwendolyn Kiste, Tim Lebbon, Josh Malerman, Stephen Graham Jones and publishers such as PS Publishing, Thunderstorm Books, Dark Region Press, SST Publishing, Cemetery Dance, Buchheim Verlag, Raw Dog Screaming Press, Season of Mist, Fanucci, Solferino, Corbaccio e Sperling and Kupfer.
His work was also used for the scenography of the film adaptation of “Cell” by Stephen King, directed by Tod Williams and starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. He also provided the illustrations for the opening and closing credits for Yoshiki Takahashi’s film, Rageaholic (Kokuei Company).
A musician with a keen interest in music in general, he has also worked on a number of album covers and sleeve designs for bands such as Shining (IX, Season of Mist), :wumpscut: (Madman- Szpital Box, Beton Kopf Media), So Hideous (Laurestine, Prosthetic Records) e Hapax (Exile, Swiss Dark NIghts).
Daniele lives on a Mediterranean island, in his house-studio with his wife, his cats, various exotic insects and a vast collection of horror movies and books.

Tom Napolitano’s balloons and onomatopoeias have appeared in many comics since 2015 for publisher such as DC, Comixology Originals, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Humanoids, Valiant, and Image on titles like Batman: Last Knight on Earth, Wonder Woman Evolution, We Have Demons, Kaya, The Closet and so many more. He’s also appeared as a colorist for Tales of the Nightwatchman and back-up stories in Image’s Savage Dragon. Additionally, his illustrations and artwork have graced the pages of Ahoy Comics, Gravely Unusual Magazine and Dead Sky Publishing.
